Red Tiger Katana - Takeda Shingen.

Each piece in this beautiful katana has a hand-forged and powder steel blade. Differentially tempered to produce an HRC60 edge, HRC40 back and a distinctive hamon. Saya are deeply lacquered in red, with inlaid black bamboo leaves painted.

The ray skin used on the tsuka is of the highest quality, and the tsuka-ito and sageo on all three pieces have the best quality Japanese cotton.

The Fuchi, Kashira, Kojiri, Koiguchi and Kurigata are all made from aged gold and silver materiales.

The Tsuba of the Katana and Wakizashi are made from blackened brass, with gold dragons inlaid in brass.

There is no place in the world where the sword has been as revered as in Japan. Even today the Japanese sword is regarded with a mystic awe. This premium weapon is made like the originals, using authentic materials, forging and construction techniques. Until now, this caliber was available only from custom knifemakers at custom prices.

The blade is hand-forged and tempered in the style of Japanese smiths of old, using a high quality steel. Like the original blades, they are differentially tempered: the edge measures about 64 on the Rockwell Scale, but the back of the blade measures only in the high 30 s.

Thus, the temper line, or hamon, you see on each blade is real and results from clay being used in the tempering process. Sword has a sharpened edge that can be honed to razor sharpness with a few light strokes from a hard Arkansas stone (sharpening service not available). Made by one of the last Japanese swordmakers in the wolrd.


Authentic grip on this beautiful weapon mirrors the original in every detail. Held in place by two wooden pegs and over-wrapped in flat cotton cord, it is covered with real ray skin. Manuki, tsuba and kashira are made of aged metal with intensely rich detail. The throat and tip of the wooden scabbard are of genuine horn. This is as close to an old katana as you can get without paying several thousand dollars.
